Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- At this time, we do not accept public drop-ins or walk-ins. All workshops, classes, and studio use must be booked in advance through our website. This is to ensure that an instructor is available to guide you and that we can maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
- The only type of drop-ins we do allow are for our 6-week class students who are familiar with studio safety protocols to drop-in and practice. These drop-ins should be booked by contacting us through email.
- For studio safety reasons, we also do not allow non-members to drop in and use the space on their own. If you’re an experienced potter looking for independent studio time, we recommend checking out our Membership page to learn more about our membership options.
Workshops:
- You can reschedule your workshop through the rescheduling link in your confirmation email, up to 72 hours before your scheduled time. After this window, rescheduling is no longer available. If you’re within the 72-hour window but don’t see an available time slot, please email us at helloteam@clayground.ca, and we’ll do our best to help.
6-Week Classes:
- If your scheduled classes have not started, you may request to reschedule to another date/time slot at least 1 week before the class start date by emailing us at helloteam@clayground.ca. While we cannot guarantee a spot in the same month, we’ll try our best to place you in the next available session.
- If your classes have started and you cannot make it to one of the classes in the 6-week, we do allow one make-up session. Please talk to your instructor in-class and we can work something out.
Cancellations:
We DO NOT offer refunds.
- However, if you cancel a workshop 72+ hours in advance or a 6-week class 1+ week in advance, we can issue a store credit for future use. Please email us at helloteam@clayground.ca
- Cancellations made after these timeframes are not eligible for rescheduling or store credit.
- Pottery is a delicate process, and sometimes pieces may crack or break during drying or firing. This can happen for many reasons—like air bubbles forming while you pulled up the clay, not enough compression at the base, drying too quickly due to weather, or issues during kiln firing.
- While we do our best to prevent this and it doesn’t happen often, we can’t guarantee that every piece will survive the full process 100% of the time. It’s all part of the pottery journey—and at Clayground, we embrace the wabi-sabi mindset: perfectly imperfect.
- This is also why handmade pottery is often priced higher on the market—the time, skill, and care that go into every piece, combined with a less-than-perfect success rate, make each creation that much more meaningful.
- Pottery can get a little messy, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
- Pants are best, especially for wheel throwing — skirts are not recommended as they can get in the way.
- Wear closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting clay on. Aprons will be provided, but clay has a way of getting everywhere!
- All of our workshops and classes are currently 18+.
- For younger participants, we can accept through group booking or private events. Please check out our Group Booking & Private Event page.
- We will also occasionally offer special themed workshops for youth or parent & kid sessions.
- We’re planning to expand our programming for younger participants once our studio matures after our soft opening. Stay tuned and subscribe to our newsletter for updates on future offerings!
- It takes approximately 3–4 weeks for your pieces to go through the full process — trimming, bisque firing, glazing, and glaze firing.
- We’ll send you an email notification once your pieces are ready for pickup. Please make sure to pick up your work within one month of receiving the email. Unfortunately, any pieces not claimed within that time will be discarded due to limited storage space.
- If the workshop or class is labeled Intro or Beginner, no experience is needed — these are designed for complete beginners!
- If it’s labeled Intermediate, some prior experience will be required.
- For any special themed workshops, please click into the specific product page and read the description — we’ll always specify if experience is necessary.
- Yes! We offer both group bookings and full private studio event booking. Please see our Group booking & private event page for more info and how to inquire.
- For wheel-throwing and handbuilding workshops or classes, short, trimmed nails are highly recommended. Long nails can make it very difficult to shape and control the clay on the wheel, and will get in the way of your clay.
- If you have long manicured nails you prefer not to cut, we recommend waiting until your nails can be trimmed short before attending for the best experience in both handbuilding and wheel workshops and classes.
